Lillian Mae Appel, 93, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Arlington Place in Grundy Center, IA, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services for Lillian will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, IA with Pastor Al Polito officiating.  Public visitation will be held one hour prior to services.  Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, masks are required before entering church.  Following services, Lillian will be laid to rest at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center, IA. Lillian Mae Bergman was born on September 6, 1927 in New Hartford, IA, the daughter of Joe and Jennie (Hoodjer) Bergman.  She was raised and educated in the Grundy Center school district, where she graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1945.

On June 4, 1948, Lillian was united in marriage to Max Adolph Appel at the Bethany Presbyterian Church.  From this union three children were born: Maxine, Jerry and Larry.  She was a hardworking woman dedicating her working years at the Grundy Center Utilities.  Lillian was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church and many of the activities associated within the church.  She had a passion for the game of Golf, where she got two hole-in-one’s.  She also enjoyed playing cards, bridge, watching sports of any kind, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Maxine Harberts, Jerry (Donna) Appel and Larry (Bev) Appel; brother: Norman “Bud” Bergman; sister-in-law: Alice Bergman; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her loving spouse, Max Appel; parents: Joe and Jennie Bergman; one brother: Jake Bergman; one sister: Genevieve Bergman; son-in-law: Sid Harberts and one sister-in-law: Sandra Bergman.
