Edna Evelyn Heard (Kosanke) entered her eternal home on March 25, 2020, at the age of 99; she had spent the last 4 years of her life at Wesley Acres in Des Moines, Iowa, due to her dementia. To protect the health and safety of all, services are currently being limited as required by state and local authorities and the CDC. A private burial will be held at East Lawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. A memorial service will be held at a later date to remember Edna. Edna was born on September 14, 1920, to Frederick and Anna (Garbe) Kosanke in Eldora Iowa. She lived on the family farm and went to Norwood country school finishing the 8th grade.  On Valentine’s day 1946, she was joined in marriage to Rowland (Ted) Heard. They farmed near Eagle City for the next 25 years having three sons in that time. They moved to Eldora following her father’s death, living with her Mom when Ted retired. She worked many years at the Eldora Bakery and then worked at Dayco until her retirement in 1986.

Upon retirement, she volunteered for many years at the Marshalltown Veterans home receiving numerous commendations for her service. She was an active member of the Eldora Ladies Auxiliary. She would be seen all over Eldora taking her daily walks; she tried to walk 50 blocks every day, weather permitting. She was a consummate neighbor and friend to many in the Eldora community; always giving of her time to help others in need. Edna was a long-time active member of the Owasa Methodist Church;  she lived her life through her faith and family.

She is survived by her three sons Rev. Frederick (Juanita) Heard of Sevierville, TN, David (Carlene) Heard of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Richard (Debra) Heard of Clive, IA. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Melvin Kosanke and his wife Marge, and her granddaughter Carey Ann Heard.
