Wilma Ruth (Harms) Vos, 86, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Creekside Living in Grundy Center. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Inurnment will be held privately by the family at Holland Cemetery.
Wilma was born on October 15, 1937, in Marshalltown, Iowa to her parents George and Henrietta (Werkman) Harms. She was raised in Holland and attended Colfax 6 & 7 Country school. She graduated from Grundy Center High School with the class of 1955. She worked at the Grundy Center Elementary School Library Aid and as Principal Secretary for the Grundy Center Community School District, retiring in 2001. She emerged from retirement to work as the church secretary for Bethany Presbyterian Church from 2009 – 2014.
Wilma was united in marriage to William “Bill” Vos on November 4, 1955, at the Christian Reformed Church in Holland, Iowa. Together they welcomed three children into their family.
Wilma was a long-time member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. She was a 60-year member of the Bethany Presbyterian Women’s Association. Wilma enjoyed cross-stitch, reading, cooking, and baking for her family, and visiting and playing cards with her friends. She especially cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wilma is survived by her children Brenda Biersner of Dike, Iowa, Scott (Connie) Vos of McKinney, Texas and Linda Johnson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; her grandchildren Mitchell, Benjamin (Jodie) and Alexander Biersner, Elizabeth Vos and Andrew (Felicia) Vos, Heather (Jamie) Niedermann and Michael Dorothy; her great-grandchildren Tyler Dorothy, Kinnick and Kinnley Niedermann, Grayson and Peyton Vos; one nephew; five nieces and her brother-in-law Kryn (Phyllis) Vos of Portage, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Leona Rhoads; brother-in-law, John Rhoads; and son-in-law, John Biersner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to her family.
