Wilma J. Peters, 90, of Charles City, Iowa, formerly of Eldora, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Chautauqua Guest Homes in Charles City. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in rural Wellsburg, Iowa. Funeral services will follow the visitation at the church. The committal service will take place following the funeral service at the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery. Wilma was born on April 19, 1936, in rural Wellsburg, Iowa, to Will and Janet Williams. She graduated from Wellsburg High School in the class of 1950. Her pursuit of knowledge and compassion led her to Central College in Pella, after which she served as a nurse aide at the Grundy Memorial Hospital.
Wilma was united in marriage to Marlyn Peters on January 20, 1956, at the First Christian Reformed Church of rural Wellsburg, Iowa. After which she embraced her role as a full-time homemaker with grace and dedication. Together, Wilma and Marlyn settled in Eldora, Iowa, and devotedly raised their four children.
Wilma's life was a tapestry woven with love for her family, her church, and her many interests. She had a particular affection for the beauty of nature, which she expressed through her gardening and her collection of rose bushes. Her fascination with birds and owls was well-known, and she had an impressive collection that reflected her passion. Wilma and her husband enjoyed many bus trips with friends, visiting their daughter in Northern Minnesota to view the fall leaves and were avid fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes, never missing a game on the weekends.
Her legacy lives on through her children, Rochelle (Roger) Everett, Dawn (Denny) Gelhaus, and Todd (Chrissy) Peters. Wilma's heart was further blessed by her grandchildren, Lindsey LaMasters, Shawn Marsden, Jodie (Rob) Kalow, Brodi (Justin) Klaver, and Sommer Cozart, and her great-grandchildren, Caleb and Molly Marsden, Kashlyn and Kasely Kalow, Kyle and Rebecca Klaver and Savannah Cozart. She is also survived by her sister, Elaine Kosanke, niece, Angie Wilson, brother-in-law Jim (Della) Peters, and dog, Abbey, who now resides with Wilma's dear friend, Donna Blythe.
She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Marlyn, her son Jeff Peters, and her grandson Brandon Gelhaus.
