Vi was born on February 2, 1931, in Iowa City, Iowa, to her parents Dick and Marie (Gray) Gelder. She was one of thirteen children. Vi was raised in Wellsburg and attended country school west of Wellsburg. She was united in marriage to Kenneth “Bud” Adams on October 8, 1948, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church Parsonage. The couple welcomed four children into their family and enjoyed seventy-one happy years together until Buds passing in November of 2019.
Alongside being a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker, Vi sorted seed corn, worked at the AmericInn, for Don and Louise Ross at the Pub, took in ironing, cleaned houses, and cared for countless local children. She also worked at Town House. Her wonderful salads and pies will always be remembered. She was known to make the best cinnamon rolls and shared them with many people. Her super thin pancakes and Klutcha soup were always a big hit.
In her younger years Vi enjoyed being a member of a local card club and the Woman’s Chorus. She enjoyed going to the casino, watching the birds and squirrels at her many feeders, completing word search books, baking, cooking and especially Wheel of Fortune.
Vi is survived by her children Linda Town, Michael (Janet) Adams, Joel (Shonee) Adams, and Patti (Rick) Rewerts; grandchildren Brady (Dawn) Town, Holly Rudh (Tim Emslander), Gerald Adams, Casey (Elise) Adams, Diana Hlinsky, Jenna (Jason) Feeney, and Jason Rewerts; great-grandchildren Isaiah Rudh, Keely, Colin, and Liam Hlinsky, Samuel and Cameron Rewerts, Emalia Violet, Jeremiah, and James Kenneth Adams, Evelyn, Ava, and Oliver Feeney; sisters Fannie Rains and Annie Hammer; many nieces and nephews; special nephew Lee Gelder; and honorary grandson J.D. Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud; great-granddaughter Alex Marie Benner; brothers Henry Gelder, Dick Gelder, Jr., Leonard Gelder, Gerrit Gelder, Arnold Gelder, Stoffer Gelder, and Darold Burma; sisters Marie Redenius, Harmina Huisman, and Dora Gelder in infancy.
A special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Grand JiVante and St. Croix Hospice for their gentle and loving care that was provided to Vi.
