Vernon “Bud” Miller, 91, of Reinbeck, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck, Iowa. Inurnment will be held privately by the family. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Vernon was the third of five children born to his parents Vernon and Nelda (Meyers) Miller on August 12, 1934. He attended school in Cedar Falls until March of 1944 when the family relocated to Jesup and he graduated from Jesup High School in the class of 1952. He belonged to FFA and 4H clubs while in school. Vernon made lifelong friendships while at school and stayed in touch with all of his classmates throughout his life. Vernon served in the United States Army and was stationed overseas in Germany and then met and married his wife Betty “Bep” Westerweel in Amsterdam.
Vernon worked most of his life on a farm. He was dedicated to and had a love of animals. Vernon had the gift of heardsmanship and the ability to feel empathy for all the animals in his care. He was a proud member of the American Legion and went on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Vernon was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck. He loved the Iowa Hawkeye’s and enjoyed watching all their football and basketball games. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing with his wife Bep at Union Lake and family camping trips to Louisville and Shelbyville, Kentucky. He also enjoyed going to Calumet Farms and watching and betting on the horse races. He loved rodeos and watching the Kentucky Derby. However, his true joy in life came from his time spent with family and friends.
Vernon is survived by his daughter Patty Beiner; sons Greg Miller and Bruce Miller; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters Virginia Zuck and Kathleen Brown; brother Lynn (Tammy) Miller; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Bep; son Mark Miller; sister Marlys Zuck; daughter-in-law Darlene Miller; brothers-in-law Marshall Zuck, LeRoy Zuck, and Gordon Brown.
