Thomas Emmett

September 17, 1926 — May 15, 2005

Thomas Newton Emmett, 78, of Reinbeck, died Sunday, May 15, at home of natural causes. Following cremation, memorial services will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church in Reinbeck with Pastor David Nolte officiating. Inurment will occur in Reinbeck Cemetery at a later date.



Tom was born on September 17, 1926, in Reinbeck, son of Thomas Joseph and Ruth Wegand Emmett. He was married to Ruth E. Willis on June 20, 1949 in Hawkeye, Iowa. Tom graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater from 1945-1947. He owned and operated Tom?s Mobilgas station in Reinbeck until he retired in 1988. He was a life-long Reinbeck resident, serving as a member of the Reinbeck Town Council in the mid-1970's and as mayor from 1978-1979. After retirement, he owned and operated Canary Street Antiques in Lansing, IA, on summer weekends. Tom was a member of the American Legion and the First United Methodist Church of Reinbeck.



Tom is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Reinbeck; son, Tom of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Crystal (Joel) Paige of Hubbard; grandchildren, Amber Paige of Jacksonville, FL, and Lucas Paige of Shellsburg, IA; sister-in-law, Lela Kimbrell; brother-in-law, Kenneth Bahnson; and several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Elizabeth Bahnson.
