Tena Aswegan

Tena Aswegan, 97, of El Cajon, San Diego, formerly of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at her residence. Interment took place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Abels Funeral and Cremation Services of Grundy Center was entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Tena was born on December 22, 1927, in Grundy County, the daughter of Martin and Suzie (Swygman) Henze. She grew up with her two sisters, Lydia and Emma on a farm in rural Grundy County, IA. She enjoyed playing games, especially card games and reveled in beating her family members, always supporting an innocent smile.

On January 2, 1952 she was united in marriage to Harold Aswegan at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Parkersburg. They farmed in the Fern area their entire lives, retiring to a home in Grundy Center. They raised two children together, Norman and Galen. Tena was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church, the Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, and then the American Luthera Church in Grundy Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, her son Norman, and her sisters Emma and Lydia. Survivors include her son, Galen and his wife Renea of San Diego, CA, and her daughter in law, Debra Aswegan of Hardy, IA.
