Steve E. Delfs, 81, a proud member of the Grundy Center community, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. This will be followed immediately by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at the same location, where family and friends will gather to honor Steve’s memory and celebrate a life well lived.
Steve was born on January 26, 1945, in Grundy Center, Iowa, to the late Elmer and Irma Delfs. He graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1963, beginning a life shaped by lasting friendships, deep roots, and work that brought purpose and pride.
On May 1, 1965, Steve married the love of his life, Pat, at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. Their partnership was a testament to love and devotion, inspiring those around them throughout a lifetime shared together. Prior to settling as a longtime resident of Grundy Center, he and his wife Pat moved frequently, embracing new beginnings with resilience and hope. Once established, Steve devoted 35 years to Fisher Controls as a Machinist, where his commitment and work ethic left a lasting impression.
Steve was known for his kind, welcoming nature, quick wit, and sense of humor, always caring deeply for those around him. His hobbies reflected a love of the outdoors. He enjoyed camping and fishing, and he was a dedicated follower of dirt track racing and NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt being his favorite driver. A lifelong fan, Steve supported the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs, carrying his team pride wherever he could.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Pat; his sons, Scott (Sandie) Delfs of Grundy Center and Chad (Jody) Delfs of Wellington, FL; and his grandchildren, Chelsea (Travis) Baruth, Zachary (Samantha Tuecke) Delfs, Parker Delfs, Courtney (Carlos Avila) Delfs, and Caden Delfs. Steve also leaves behind his great‑grandchildren—Ryder, Alianna, Dominick, Jaylee, and Carlos Jr.—as well as his sister, Irma “Tudi” Venenga, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his siblings: sisters Karen Delfs and Audrey Heideman, and brother Gary Delfs.
Steve touched many lives with his warmth and generosity. His legacy of kindness and quick witted humor will forever hold a place in the hearts of all who knew him.
