Stephen L. Klinghammer, 81, of Reinbeck, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck under the care of St. Croix Hospice. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. at the Reinbeck Community Church. At the conclusion of the Celebration of Life a time for fellowship will take place at the church where lunch will be served. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Croix Hospice.
Stephen was born on May 10, 1944, in Manchester, Iowa, to parents George and Janet (Hillier) Klinghammer. He attended grade school in Quasqueton, most of his high school at East Buchanan and then his senior year he moved to Waterloo graduating from East High in 1963.
He lived his adult life in Waterloo and worked at John Deere Foundry for 27 years. He retired as a supervisor at the foundry in 1999. Stephen met Marilyn Kay (Brown) Dolf in 2000 while riding horses and enjoying trail riding with friends. They married on February 16, 2002, and made Reinbeck their home.
Stephen enjoyed being outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, nature walks, traveling, playing cards and grilling. He also enjoyed being with people. He was active in his church and went on a mission trip with the youth group. He was on the Interchurch Council and helped with the CROP Walk and the live nativity scenes for Reinbeck’s Miracle on Main. He was a member of the Reinbeck Lion’s Club and the Grundy County Gideon. He also loved to volunteer at Westview and Parkview Manor.
Stephen is survived by his wife Marilyn Klinghammer of Reinbeck; sons, LeRoy Klinghammer of Texas, Kris Klinghammer (Laurie Wyman) of Elk Horn; stepchildren, Ron Herrmann of Waterloo, Jana Herrmann of West Branch, Renee Meade of North Liberty and Jason (Heather) Dolf of Raymond; 15 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren; sister Karen Klinghammer of Marion and life-long friend who was like a brother, Lowell (Joyce) Dauenbaugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and infant grandson, Benjamin Jacob Klinghammer.
