Shirley Waldemar

June 16, 1930 — January 14, 2020

Shirley Ilene Waldemar, 89, of Stout, IA, passed away peacefully at home under Care Initiatives Hospice on Tuesday, January 14th 2020.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Reformed Church of Stout on Thursday, January 16th at 10:30 A.M.  Abels Funeral and Cremation Service-Engelkes Chapel is caring for Ilene and her friends. Ilene was born on June 16th,1930, to her parents Rudolph and Lucille (Monroe) Struve of Traer, IA.  She attended West High in Waterloo, IA.  On March 9, 1952, she married Robert Waldemar in Spring Valley, MN.  The couple lived in Waterloo before moving to Stout in 1964.  They had a long and happy 48 year marriage prior to Robert’s passing in 2000.

Ilene was a long-time member of the Reformed Church of Stout. She was involved in the Ladies Guild and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 471.  Ilene also enjoyed playing cards, embroidering dish towels, and performing bead work.

Ilene was preceded in death by her son Rudolph Wayne; her parents; her husband; her brother Ralph and two sisters, Ethel and Ruth.
