Reinbeck

Shirley K. Moye, a beloved member of the Reinbeck community, passed away on January 4, 2026, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home. Born on December 7, 1934, in Grundy County, Iowa, Shirley led a life rich in love, community, and service.

Shirley had a profound passion for farming, proudly referring to herself as a “farm-her.” She devoted countless hours to the fields, infusing them with her love and nurturing spirit. Harvest time brought her immense joy, as she would prepare meals for those working alongside her, epitomizing her devotion to family and community. Her impact extended beyond the fields; she was an energetic volunteer at her church in Reinbeck, where she dedicated her time teaching Sunday School and guiding the Junior MYF Group.

Her legacy is also felt through the cherished memories shared with her grandchildren. There were many campouts, Easter egg hunts, and joyful gatherings at her home. Shirley instilled in her grandchildren a deep appreciation for gardening, adventure, and the great outdoors, often taking them on walks through her grove to collect walnuts. Her exuberance for life and family made her known as a fun grandma, embodying the warmth and love that she so generously shared with those around her.

In addition to her love for farming and family, Shirley had a strong affinity for sports, particularly basketball. She was a proud member of the Reinbeck team that clinched the girls' State Tournament title in 1952. Traveling also held a special place in her heart, and she made many fond memories with her beloved late husband, Don of 62 years, exploring the Boundary Waters making northern their dish of choice. Their adventurous spirit led them to embark on RAGBRAI for 12 years and participate in various canoe trips on Iowan rivers.

Shirley is survived by her son Vince (Julie) Moye, son Clifford (Kim) Moye, and her grandchildren Jessica (Matt), Jeremiah, Jacob (Emily), Zach (Margaret), Samuel (Helen), Irina (Matt), along with her great-grandchildren Caleb, Elijah, Ava, Ryker, Easton, and Miles. She is also survived by her sister Marilyn Delange. She was preceded in death by her husband Don and four siblings, Marvin Barfels, Florence Martins, Wava White and Ruth Ward.

Shirley Moye's journey in life was marked by her unwavering love for her family, her contributions to her community, and her zest for the world around her. She will be remembered for the laughter she brought into every gathering and the lessons she imparted through her actions and stories.
