Shirley Mae (Alley) Harrell went with Jesus to her eternal home on October 30, 2019. She was a fabulous 91 years young. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church in New Providence, Iowa. At her request, any memorials will be donated to the New Providence Round House or the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church. Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, Creps Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Shirley was born on September 19, 1928 near Murray, Iowa, to her parents deFloyd and Effie (Jones) Alley. She had four sisters, Darlene, who passed away as a young child, Meryle Saddoris, Gladys Weaklend and Margaret Alley. Shirley was raised on a farm in Clark County, Iowa. Her early education was in country school and she graduated from Osceola High School in the class of 1948.
She was united in marriage to Lewis W. Harrell on July 14, 1950. They enjoyed 67 wonderful years together. She was a loving, caring and fun mother to her children David and Kathy. Many a picnic and campfire were spent together with friends, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley worked at the Eldora Hospital when it was located up town in 1963 and for 15 more years after the new Hospital was built.
Shirley is survived by her children David (Peg) Harrell and Kathy (Brent) Hammond; grandchildren Sarah (Al) Cakerice, Josh (Megan) Harrell and Tom (Dawn) Harrell; great-grandchildren Trent, Elias, Jordan, Allyson, Morgan, Tyler, Macy, Paige, Kayne and Lainey; sister-in-law Callie Jamison; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lewis and her sisters.
