Eldora

Scott T. Hootman, 75, of Eldora, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Mercy One Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Eldora, City Cemetery in Eldora, Iowa, with Military Honors conducted by the Eldora American Legion -Walter Sayer Post #182 and V.F.W Roll-Harless #3974. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Scott was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on August 2, 1947, the devoted son of Richard and Jackie (Jones) Hootman. He was raised in Eldora and graduated from Eldora High School in the class of 1965. Scott served his country in the United States Army, completing two tours of combat duty in Vietnam. Scott was then united in marriage to Renee Priebe on December 10, 1971. They enjoyed 51 wonderful years together. In 1977 Scott earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Iowa State University.

Scott was an active member of the Eldora American Legion. He loved guns, gunsmithing, and target practice. He also enjoyed fishing and fly fishing. So much so Scott would even make his own rods and lures. He was an avid history buff, especially military history. Renne and Scott enjoyed a week together each fall at their cabin in northern Minnesota. His true joy was found in spending time with his wife, Renee, and his family.

Left to cherish Scott’s memory are his wife Renee; his sisters Jan Eischen and Katie Lammers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
