Riley M. Gilbert of Hudson IA, passed away on April 16th, 2024, doing what he loved most, riding his Harley. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at New Life Church in Reinbeck. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at New Life Church. Interment will be private. Memorials can be directed to the family, in lieu of flowers.

Riley attended Preschool-1st grade in Hudson and later graduated from Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School. Immediately following graduation in 2015, Riley set off to the Army at the age of 17 and served through 2019, training in the Bravo Company 31st Engineer Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and then stationed as a member of the 10th Mountain Division 2nd Brigade 41st Engineer Battalion Beast Company at Fort Drum, New York.

He was currently employed at the Black Hawk County Landfill, but he had a passion for being a firefighter, which he showed during his time as a volunteer in New York at the Evans Mills Fire Department. He also served as a volunteer on the Hudson Fire and Rescue Department, as well as a member of the Hudson AMVETS Post 82. 

Riley had a passion for riding his Harley, being a member of the Hudson Fire Dept. and the Hudson Amvets Riders Post 82. He also enjoyed his guns and fishing. Riley was always the center of attention wherever he went, but never failed to put a smile on people’s faces. He always had a story to tell and was always full of jokes. 

Riley is survived by his father Brett Gilbert; mother Shelly(Ken)Fogt; siblings Reece Gilbert (Sydney Benson) Elly, Carter, and Lexee Fogt; uncle Brock Gilbert; nieces Brystal, who has a sibling arriving in November, Kinley, and Madison; grandparents Sharon and Paul Banaszak "Papa", Nancy and Steve Swinton, Terry and Doris Gilbert; maternal great grandmother Merelyn Harberts; along with many other relatives and treasured friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Bruce Harberts.
