Richard Roll

October 10, 1935 — November 21, 2017

Richard “Dick” Roll, 82, of Eldora, Iowa passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 after a courageous battle with progressive supernuclear palsey at Eldora Specialty Care in Eldora, Iowa while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. A funeral service for Dick will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 24, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, Iowa with Pastor David Splett officiating.  Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 23, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.  Messages of condolence may be left for the Roll family at www.abelsfuneralhomes.com

Richard Carl Roll, son of Herbert and Winifred (Sheldon) Roll was born on October 10, 1935 in Eldora, Iowa.  He received his education in Eldora and graduated from Eldora High School in 1953.  On February 18, 1956, he married Ann Louise Cable at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora.  He honorably served in the United States Army from September of 1958 until being honorably discharged in July of 1959.  Dick was involved in farming his entire life and also owned and operated Dick’s CB Sales and Service for many years.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, where he was active in many church offices and committees.  His memberships also included the Hardin County Cattleman’s Association, Union Kiwanis Club and was trustee for over 40 years for Eldora Township.  His hobbies included CB radios and collecting and also working on guns.

Survivors include his loving wife Ann of 61 years; son, Rick (Tina) Roll all of Eldora; grandchildren, Caleb, James, Lain and Matty; great grandchildren, Sparrow, Rockelle and Jaxyn; and his sister, Doris Barton of Waterloo.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ryan Roll and his brother-in-law, Darrell Barton.
