Patricia Ann Raber Hauser was born October 13, 1933, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to John H. & Vesta (Lynch) Raber. She passed away peacefully at Arlington Place in Grundy Center on February 9, 2026.
Funeral service information will be available on Wednesday. Please check back for the details.
Pat graduated from Ackley High School in 1951 and from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She was united in marriage to George Hauser on June 26, 1960, at Ackley, Iowa. They lived briefly in Atlantic and Clinton before settling into life on their farm northeast of Grundy Center in 1965. They welcomed into their family sons Ross and Lincoln and daughter Ellen. Pat enjoyed being a farm wife and mother until she returned to teaching second grade at Grundy Center Community Schools in 1975. She retired from teaching 20 years later, and George and Pat moved to their house in town in 1996. For the past four years of her life, Pat resided at Arlington Place in Grundy Center.
Pat was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for her entire life in Grundy Center. She loved gardening and baking, sharing the gifts of those labors with others, and was a voracious reader. She kept very busy in retirement, volunteering at the elementary school, library, hospital, church, and delivering meals on wheels. Pat received the Governor’s Volunteer Award in 2016, having been nominated by the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed attending many music concerts, UNI sporting events, and other travel adventures, often accompanied by her friend Daryl Boelman of Boone.
Pat is survived by her brother Larry Raber of Mesa, Arizona; sons Ross Hauser of Cedar Rapids and Lincoln Hauser of Boulder, CO; daughter Ellen (Scott) Betzer of Panora; grandchildren Amy (Joel) Bruning of Indiana; Samantha Hauser of Colorado; Joel (Michelle) Betzer of Panora; Jordan (Kara) Betzer of Grimes; and Atticus Hauser of Colorado; great-grandsons Ethan and Bo Bruning, Boston Betzer, and Mason Betzer; and many nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her husband George in 2007.
The family would like to thank Arlington Place and St. Croix Hospice for the loving care they provided to Pat in her final years. We remember Pat’s life not with sorrow but with gratitude for the time we shared, the lives she touched, and the community where she lovingly served. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Kling Memorial Library, or Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Better yet, volunteer for an organization of importance to you or do something kind for someone around you, in memory of Pat.
