Nancy L. Mackie, 84, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Grundy Center, and former long-time resident of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
Memorial service for Nancy will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center. Friends and family are invited to a Visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service. Burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family with the proceeds to be distributed to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital and Cedar Valley Hospice.
Nancy Lee Grimmius was born December 2, 1941, in Grundy Center to her parents, Joe and Emma (Pabst) Grimmius. She was raised in Grundy Center and graduated from Grundy Center High School with the class of 1960. She married Vernon Mackie and together they welcomed four children into their family. The couple later divorced. Nancy was a stay-at-home mom for many years as she raised her children. She then attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology to pursue her secretarial degree. Nancy worked for several years before returning to Hawkeye Institute of Technology to earn her nursing degree. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in health education from the University of Northern Iowa. Nancy spent the majority of her career working as a nurse in the Cedar Rapids area at The Abbe Center and Methwick from where she later retired.
Nancy had a green thumb and loved her garden, plants, and flowers. She enjoyed baking for others and was known for her delicious banana bread. Her ministry was sending cards to all people for all occasions. In her cards she would include a bible verse, a personalized message, words of encouragement, and the date she sent it. She faithfully attended the Community Baptist Church of Marion for many years and was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center.
Nancy is survived by her children Curtis (Debra) Mackie, Jay (Kathy) Mackie, Karla (John) Joerger, and Chad (Rachel) Mackie; grandchildren Alicia (Levi) Fryslie, Christine (Brandon) Nanke, Nickolas (Kelsie) Mackie, Michelle Kennedy, Wesley (Quinn) Mackie, Kyle (Catarina) Mackie, Jared (Alea) Joerger, Adam (Alyson) Joerger, Jacob (Mackenzie) Joerger, Zachary (Lexi Sady) Mackie, and Mackenzie (Nicholas) Moore; 23 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Cindy Grimmius, and niece Jennifer Grimmius. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gene Grimmius.
