Mildred D, "Milly" Anderson, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at UnityPoint Allen Hospital in Waterloo. In accordance with Milly's wishes, a private burial will be held with family at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Milly was born on April 5, 1930, the daughter of Jerry and Minnie Peters. Milly graduated from Grundy Center High School and then attended Coe College. Milly was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She met and married Troy Anderson on his return from the Navy Air Force. They moved to Iowa city until Troy graduated from college and then returned to Grundy Center where Troy worked and later purchased the Grundy Register.

Milly was a Sunday school teacher, a girl scout and brownie leader, and a member of the library board. Also, she was very active in the “Festival of Trees.” Milly was the co-founder of the Bethany Presbyterian Church Bible Garden. Milly was a 10-year member of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Board and worked diligently to see that a new hospital would be built. After years of hard work her dream became reality.

For those who knew Milly, you knew her love for animals and wildlife rescue. She loved to feed the birds and wildlife in her backyard.

Milly is survived by her two granddaughters: Anne (Tim) Hoekstra of Cedar Falls and Dr. Jill Bonsall of North Liberty; two great-grandchildren Kate and George Hoekstra; and great grand dog Piper. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Troy; and daughter Pat Bonsall.
