Marvin was born on July 14, 1932, on the family farm in Grundy County. He was the devoted son of August and Grace (Rozevink) Steinmeyer. Marvin graduated from Grundy Center High School in the class of 1950. He entered into the service of his country in December of 1952 and was stationed at the United States Army base of Fort Sill Oklahoma. His father became ill and passed away in 1953, and Marvin was honorably discharged in order to assist his mother on the family farm. In 1958, Marvin took over the farm and worked it until his retirement at the age of eighty-nine. Marvin was united in marriage to Joyce Verly on September 24, 1954, they welcomed three children into their family.

Marvin was a member of the American Lutheran Church until 1973. He was saved on February 25, 1972, in Newton, Iowa. The family then joined the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center, where he served the church as trustee. Marvin enjoyed collecting toy John Deere tractors, and rocks. Marvin also loved nature. He would take long nature drives with his wife Joyce, and together they would enjoy the natural splendor of God’s creation. However, his true joy in life came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joyce; daughters Beverly Steinmeyer and Linda Steinmeyer; grandchildren Adam, Jordan, Natalie, Abby, Jamie, Christian, Chelsea, and Nicole; 24 great-grandchildren; brother James (Janice) Steinmeyer; sisters JoAnn Wrage, Alice Kolthoff, Rozella (Lary) Riebkes, and Wanda Sovereign; many nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law Susan Steinmeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Perry Steinmeyer; grandchildren Stephanie Mandrell and Kyle McNeil; brother August Steinmeyer; sisters Mary Henze, Ann Meyers, and Barbara Wical; son-in-law Joseph McNeil; and a brother in infancy Alvin Dean Steinmeyer.
