Nick was born June 17, 1929 in Beaman, Iowa, to his parents William & Emma (Harmsen) Hamann. He graduated from Reinbeck Community School in 1946. He worked on the farm for his dad until 1951 while working at Rath Packing during the winter months. In 1951, he started working for DX-Sunray. In 1954, he married Joann Steil of Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Madison, Wisconsin until 1955 when he transferred back to Waterloo for Sunray DX, until 1976. Nick enjoyed dancing and card playing. He was also a member of the Oak Leaf Country Club in Reinbeck. His pride and joy was singing with the Inter-Faith Men’s Chorus which traveled to various locations in Iowa and Minnesota. His later years were spent making new friends and his occasional trips to the casino.
