Marj Freitag went to play the organ for the celestial choir on August 6, 2025. Marjorie Ann (Martens) Freitag was born to J Albert and Florence (Barfels) Martens on January 10, 1937, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She grew up on a farm north of Morrison, Iowa and attended Reinbeck schools. She graduated from Tarkio College in 1958 with a BS in Music. While teaching music at Elkader High School she met the love of her life, Neil Freitag. They were married on June 24, 1960 and taught at Elkader and Avoca schools before Neil joined the Air Force. They had two children, Steve and Beth while stationed in Abilene, Texas before moving back to Iowa and joining Albert with the family farm. Their son Charles was born in Grundy, Iowa. They lived on the acreage outside of Reinbeck, receiving the Century Farm designation in 2019, which Marj was very proud of. Marj was the church organist at First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck for 60 years, playing the last time on July 27. She loved working outdoors with her flowers and garden, and quilting with her local group. Marj had a servant heart and would visit her regulars at the Reinbeck and Grundy care facilities and served on the Morrison Museum board. She loved to talk and never met a stranger that she couldn't strike up a conversation with. Marj loved the Lord and spent many hours reading her bible, watching her favorite pastors on tv, and sharing the Good News to those she'd meet.
She is survived by her devoted husband Neil, children Steve (Kari), Beth (Glenn), Chuck; grandchildren Heather, Olivia, Joel (Regina), Claire, Anna, Lily, David; great grandson Nickolas Howard; brother Jim (Sue), sister-in-law Karen Weber, several nieces, nephews, cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents J Albert and Florence Martens, in-laws Bill and Greta Freitag, brother Craig, daughter-in-law Pam Freitag.
