Lourine Edna Pruis

Lourine Edna Pruis, 86, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Arlington Place in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in Rural Holland on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Lourine was born on March 14, 1937 to her parents Vernon “Verb” and Edna (Bolhuis) Syhlman, and grew up near Parkersburg, Iowa.

On February 18, 1958, Lourine was united in marriage to Marlyn James Pruis at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church. After their marriage they lived on his family farm; where Lourine helped Marlyn in farming until they retired in 1997. In 2008 they moved to Arlington Place in Grundy Center.

Lourine enjoyed making puzzles, reading newspapers, doing word finds, playing some of the games they played there, and most of all enjoyed watching the birds at the feeders outside her windows.

Lourine is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Randy) Murra of Wellsburg, Iowa; son, Tony (JoEllen) Pruis of Waterloo, Iowa; 4 grandsons, Jerod (Myndi) Murra, Trent (Lisa) Murra, Jesse Murra, and Zachary Pruis; 5 great-grandchildren, Bentley, Maeley, Ayzley, Kenleigh and Elleigh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Marlyn; son Wendall Mark; 4 sisters, Tena Benning, Dorothy Adelmund, Wilma Adelmund, and Vernice Valentine; brother Fred Syhlman; 4 sisters-in-law, Suzie Syhlman, Gertie Pruis, Maerka Pruis, and Henrietta Pruis; 4 brothers-in-law, Albert Benning, Jake Adelmund, George Adelmund, and Melvin Valentine.
