Lorin E. Hermann

Lorin E. Hermann, 89, of Grundy Center, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Creekside Living.  He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on June 13, 1934, to Glenn and Thelma (Olmstead) Hermann.

A Celebration of Lorin’s life will be held at Orchard Hill Church in Grundy Center on Saturday, April 13, 2024.   There will be a visitation at 12:00pm with the services following at 1:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family directly.

He graduated from Mason City High School in 1952.   Upon graduation he joined the Air Force in August of 1953. He was stationed in Stavangar, Norway. During this time of service, he met and married Kirsten Eriksen on July 17, 1957. He was discharged on September 10, 1957. They returned to the states and resided in Mason City, Ames, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During this time Lorin studied and got his degree in construction engineering. To this union four children, Jon Eric, Lisa, Lori, and Thomas were born. They divorced in 1979.

Lorin’s career as a construction engineer led to employments in Cedar Rapids, Sioux City and Waterloo in Iowa and also Buffalo, New York.  Changes in careers and retirement took him to Texas, Nevada, Utah, California, Minnesota, and then back to Iowa.

Lorin is survived by one son, Thomas (Michele) Hermann of Sioux City, Iowa; two daughters, Lisa (Rick) Schupbach of Grundy Center, Iowa and Lori (Lonn) Larson of Baxter, Minnesota; one sister, Jane Hermann of Perry, Iowa. Grandchildren: Taylor (Brooke) Schupbach, Treye (Jenna) Schupbach, Emilee (Jordan) Timothy, Ben Larson, Sarah (Ryan) Swearingen, Ryan (Shiyue) Ingalls, Megan Greigg, and Tommy (Sydney) Hermann. Great-grandchildren: Brie, Indy, and Tate Schupbach, Opal and Wren Timothy, Cambree and Jaylee Swearingen, Zoe and Cora Ingalls, Noah, Joseph, and Eric Greigg, plus several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: one son, Jon Eric; a sister, Dorothy Foster Dunaway, and a brother, Jerome Hermann.
