LaVonne Fern Hook

LaVonne Fern Hook, 81, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Grundy Care Center. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. 

LaVonne was born on March 24, 1945, in rural Stout, Iowa, to her parents Rudolph and Fannie (Miller) Hook. She was raised in the LaPorte City area and attended West Junior High School in Waterloo. When she was a teenager, she became the primary caregiver to her parents when they were ill. After her parents passed away, LaVonne began working at the Grundy Care Center as a housekeeper. LaVonne loved her job and visiting with the residents of the care center. She worked at the care center for 25 years retiring in June of 2022. She then entered the care center as a resident in December of 2022.

LaVonne was a long-time member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church. She loved the outdoors, gardening, and mowing lawn. She was known for faithfully reading her bible and her true joy in life came from spending time with her family.

LaVonne is survived by her brother Ralph (Mary) Hook; nephews Curt Hook and David (Amy) Hook; grandnephew Trenten (Autumn) Hook; grandnieces Vanessa (Landen) Johansen, Elizabeth (Logan) Phillips, Mary Ash (Dylan Ohrt), and Lydia Hook; great-grandnephew Avery Johansen; great-grandnieces Adley Hook and Caroline Johansen; and cousin Annie (Tom) Harldson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, LaVerne, in infancy.
