Jeanette Eckhoff

Jeanette Eckhoff touched the world with her warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion. She was born on May 17, 1932, in Parkersburg, Iowa, to Carl and Ella (Ridder) Dreesman, and spent her early days in the gentle embrace of the Iowa countryside. Her strong roots began as she attended Country School in Rural Parkersburg.

On September 27, 1950, Jeanette was united in marriage to the love of her life, Remmer Eckhoff, in Butler County. Their partnership was marked by shared laughter and a steadfast commitment to each other, providing an enduring example of love’s durability and grace.

Jeanette devoted herself wholeheartedly to her home and children, creating a haven filled with warmth, kindness, and the reassurance of a loving presence. Her easygoing nature and great sense of humor were ever-present, bringing joy not only to her family but to everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.

Her days were woven with hard work and care for others, both within her family and her community. She extended her compassion beyond her home, as a janitor for the Reinbeck Memorial Building and the Reinbeck First Presbyterian Church, and later working at the beloved Corner Cafe in Reinbeck. Every task she undertook was approached with diligence and a cheerful heart, leaving behind a legacy of dependability and pride in all she accomplished.

Jeanette’s life was rich in simple pleasures and heartfelt pastimes. She found joy in playing cards, bingo, and putting together puzzles—always eager to share a laugh or let her playful spirit lighten the room. She cherished her garage sale excursions and road trips, each adventure a treasure not for the things acquired, but for the memories created along the way.

Her presence was a gentle and uplifting force, radiating warmth, and her personable spirit made every gathering brighter. Those who knew Jeanette will remember her as someone who listened without judgment, smiled easily, and welcomed both friends and strangers with open arms.

Jeanette’s journey ended on July 25, 2026, in Grundy Center, Iowa, but the kindness, humor, and enduring love she shared remain vibrant in the hearts of all who knew her.

Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to attend visitation on July 30, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Abels Funeral And Cremation Service in Reinbeck, located at 409 Clark Street. A funeral service in loving memory of Jeanette will be held on July 31, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 405 Broad Street, Reinbeck.

Jeanette is survived by five children; Diane (Jack) Welch, Dennis Eckhoff, Randall (Sue) Eckhoff, Janice Ohrt, Rod (Kim) Eckhoff, ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, one sister; Shirley Siems, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; Remmer, a son-in-law; Phil Ohrt, three brothers; Melvin (Trina) Dreesman, Chris (Viola) Dreesman, Kenneth (Eljen) Dreesman, and a brother-in-law, Raymond Siems.
