Jared Foster Owen

Jared F. Owen, 84, of Reinbeck, Iowa, formerly of rural Hudson, Iowa, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, 12:30 p.m. at the family farm, 12416 Hicks Rd, Hudson, Iowa. A time of fellowship and lunch will follow. Memorials may be directed to the family which will then be distributed to the UCC of Reinbeck and the Reinbeck Fire Department.

Jared was born in Clay Center, Kansas, on May 14, 1941, to Foster and Grace (Schoning) Owen. In 1949 the family moved to a farm in the Reinbeck area. He graduated from Reinbeck High School in the class of 1959. In 1961, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Karkosh. Jared then went on to earn his degree in Farm Operation from Iowa State University. After graduation he worked for Purina Feeds before returning to the Hudson area to farm with Emil Karkosh. In 1973, his brother-in-law, Gary Karkosh returned to the family farm forming K & O Farms.

Besides his lifelong love for farming, Jared was very proud of his graduation from ISU, his service on the Reinbeck school board, and his collection of John Deere toys.

Jared is survived by wife Kathryn; sons Garrett (Traci), Darrick; grandchildren Dr. Kelci (Adam) Muehling, Katy Owen, Dr. Morgan (Brady) Corbett, and Mitchell (Hanna) Krohn; and five great grandchildren.
