Hilda Asu

Hilda Asu, 99, of Eldora, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 28 ^th , 2010 10:30 A.M. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services at the funeral home.

Hilda was born on August 26, 1910 in Narvas, Estonia, the daughter of August and Alide (Tamm) Tasane. She was raised in Estonia and attended school there. She later met and married Valmar Asu on September 1, 1933 in Narvas , Estonia . The couple welcomed two children. In 1944, the family was moved to a German Displaced Persons Camp where they remained until 1949. On Christmas Day in 1949, the family arrived in Eldora , IA , U.S.A. They moved to 710 11 ^th St. in Eldora and lived there for almost 12 years. Hilda and Valmar later moved into the Riverside Apartment complex. For many years, Hilda worked for several families in town and assisted them in their household chores. Hilda was proud to become a United States Citizen in 1956. In 1982, Valmar passed away and Hilda remained in the apartment complex until 2002, where she moved into the Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Hilda enjoyed gardening, sewing, loved music and was always happy and in great spirits.

She is survived by her niece Ellen Traks of Canada ; great-nephew Peeter Traks of Canada ; special friends Darrell (Martha) Miller of Plymouth , MN . Hilda was preceded in death by her husband Valmar; children Heldi (Roman) Korts and Heido Asu; 3 sisters.
