Harvey was born on February 20, 1930 to Luitjen L. Beenken and Mildred Helen (Sink) Beenken at home near Stout, IA. He was one of fourteen children and was raised on the family farm near Holland, IA. On June 4th, 1954 he married his sweetheart, Jeanette Jungling. They both became members of Bethany Presbyterian Church and took their faith very seriously.

Harvey loved spending time with his family. He loved attending his granddaughter’s volleyball games and track meets and later got to enjoy his two great-grandchildren especially having them drive him around in the golf cart.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jeanette; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Roger Martin of Dike, IA; granddaughter Teresa (Jamie) Bradley of Marion, IA; great-grandchildren Kaden and Keira Bradley; one sister, Clara Hinders and many nieces and nephews.Harvey is preceded in death by his parents, Luitjen and Mildred Beenken; infant son Timmy; four brothers, Lutjen, Charles Wilbur, Edward, and Alfred; and eight sisters Katharina Ridder, Mariam Bohlen, Lena Anderson, Leta Gerloff, Mildred Katzer, Pearl Hartgrave, Anna Mae Clemmons and Lavina Martin.
