H. Folkerts

H. Dean Folkerts, 82, of Barron, Wisconsin, formerly of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 3, 2007 following a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Thursday, November 8 at the First Baptist Church of Eldora, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.



Dean was born on May 28, 1925, the son of Hie and Minnie (Harms) Folkerts. He graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in 1944. Following graduation, he farmed with his father. On June 15, 1949 he was united in marriage to Eunice Y. Huffman at the First Baptist Church of Eldora. He farmed in the Steamboat Rock area until the early 80s. After that, he raised sheep, did custom corn shelling and bailing, and drove school bus for the Steamboat Rock School.



Dean was a member of First Baptist Church of Eldora where he was a trustee and usher. He served on the board of the Iowa River and Conservation Improvement Club, served as a Boy Scout leader for 5 years and was a member of the Pine Lake Gun Club. He served on the South Hardin E-Squad for 10 years and was an EMT working on the Eldora Ambulance Service for many years.



His wife Eunice passed away in September of 1991 and on July 22, 1992 he was married to Eleanor (Rose) Frerichs at the First Baptist Church of Steamboat Rock. They lived in Steamboat Rock until 1997 then moving to Barron, Wisconsin. He was a charter member and active in Grace Baptist Church of Cameron, Wisconsin.



Surviving is his wife, Eleanor; son, David (Randi) Folkerts of Steamboat Rock; daughter, Nancy (Allan) Ris of Bremen, Germany; step-children, Lori (Steve) Murray of Lake City, Minnesota, and Kevin (Renee) Frerichs of Webster City, Iowa; grandchildren, Zoe and Jackie Ris; step-grandchildren, Jenn and Shawna Murray and Bethany and John Frerichs; brother, Harold (Audrey) Folkerts; brother-in-law, William Trampe; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eunice; sister, Margaret Trampe; step-son, Mark Edward Frerichs; and step-grandchildren, Isaiah and Rebecca Frerichs. He served God faithfully and was loved by his family and friends.
