Evelyn Dee Saathoff, daughter of Walter and Alida (Witbaard) Saathoff was born on June 30, 1940 in rural Grundy Center, Iowa. She received her education from the Dike Community Schools, graduating from Dike High School in 1958. Evelyn also attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. On September 5, 1959 she married Roger Dean Bergman at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center. Evelyn worked in the insurance business intermittently during her years as a full-time homemaker. She owned and operated the Grundy County Insurance Agency from 1982 until her retirement in 1996. Evelyn was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director and choir member. She was also a 4-H leader for several years and she was the Chairperson of the first All-School Reunion for Dike High School. Evelyn enjoyed life to the fullest as evidenced by her love of travel, the fun she had antiquing with her husband and the joy she experienced when she spent time playing cards or visiting with her friends, cheering at sporting events, enjoying an evening out or just having a good laugh. More than anything, she treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Roger Bergman of Dike, IA; children, Sandra (Guy) Russo of Overland Park, KS; Randy (Shelle) Bergman of Johnston, IA; Sherri (David) Platts of Mason City, IA; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Taylor Russo, Evan and Olivia Bergman, and Brandon and Collin Platts; and her brother, Ronald (Marlys) Saathoff of Allison, IA.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Alida Saathoff.
The Bergman family asks that memorials be given to the Reformed Church of Stout, the American Heart Association or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, in memory of Evelyn.
