Edith Janssen

Edith Evelyn Janssen, 99, of Eldora , Iowa died at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls , Iowa on Monday, November 16, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, Thursday, November 19 at the First Assembly of God in Eldora with Pastor Steve Neumeyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery . Edith was born September 7, 1910 near Robertson , Iowa , daughter of Edwin Lewis and Lillie Florence ( Wilson ) Cross. She attended country school near Robertson and then graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1928. She taught country school for three years following high school and on June 17, 1931 was united in marriage to John Janssen at her parent’s home. Edith and John made their home near Eldora where they farmed and raised their family. Edith was a member of the First Assembly of God in Eldora.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeanice (William) Shafer of Winthrop, Iowa; grandchildren, Deborah (Charles) Green of Conrad, Bill (DeAnn) Shafer of Winthrop, Marilyn (Bill) Crow of Winthrop, and John (Terri) Shafer of Columbus City, Iowa; and by eight great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John on January 4, 1978; a daughter, Jean; brothers, Paul and Morton; sister, Nell; and granddaughter, Jennifer.
