Grundy Center

Douglas Owen Jordan, 76, of Grundy Center passed away at his home Thursday evening, February 26, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Cornerstone Methodist Church in Grundy Center.

Doug was born on December 14, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Jefferson High School and received his BA in Business Management from the University of Northern Iowa. He continued his education in accounting, earning his CPA certification.

Doug married Neva Blacksmith in 1973, and they moved to Grundy Center in 1976. He was employed by the accounting firm of Mosebach, Griffith, Simmer before opening his own tax and accounting practice in 1983. For the next 35 years, Doug was privileged to serve this and the surrounding communities with their tax and accounting needs. Doug cherished the bonds he made with his clients and greatly missed those relationships in retirement. He served on the Grundy Center School Board for 14 years and volunteered his financial and accounting expertise to the Center Theatre, T & C Golf Course, Grundy Center Historical Society, and the Cornerstone Methodist Church. He was also the go-to resource for countless family and friends navigating tax questions. Everyone knew Doug had no fear of the IRS.

Doug was known by several monikers: addressed as “Rudy” by friends, “Daddy-O” by daughter Brianne, “Chump Boy” by son Stuart, and “Scampy” (his favorite) bestowed on him by granddaughter Lanie and quickly adopted by her sisters Briley and Rudi.

Doug was an avid golfer, enjoying years of men’s leagues, tournaments, best shots, etc. etc. with a cadre of friends and strangers. His favorite vacations were spent with friends on golf trips in the warm south at the end of tax season, working out the kinks from his office chair.

Doug is survived by his wife Neva, daughter Brianne, son Stuart (Kelli), and granddaughters Briley, Lanie, and Rudi Jordan, all of Grundy Center. He is also survived by his sister Ann (Charles) Mear of Ft. Collins, Colorado; brother Rick (Carol) Jordan of Galena, Illinois; former sister-in-law Dawn Jordan of Parrish, Florida; aunt Pat (George) Richards of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; sister-in-law Sandy (John) Vande Walle of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Marvel Jordan; brother Ron Jordan; in-laws Herb and Alice Blacksmith, Joyce Higbee, and Rob Vonk.

Doug loved Grundy Center, cherishing his friends, neighbors, church, and family. In his last years he was greatly bothered by the state of our democracy and the policies and actions of its current leadership. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorializing Doug by voting for honesty, integrity, and empathy this November and always.
