Dennis Lee Edgeton February 18, 1947- January 12, 2021

Dennis Edgeton passed away at his cabin by the lake, the place he loved the most, Tuesday January 12, 2021.  Dennis was born in Newton, IA on February 18,1947 to LaVerne and Doris Edgeton. Dennis grew up in the Newton area with multiple family members helping in his upbringing. Dennis graduated from North High, Des Moines in 1965. Once graduated Dennis joined the Navy to serve his country in a time of conflict.

Dennis Edgeton married Martha Larson from Des Moines on June 5, 1968. In that union, two children were born, Tina and Wayne. Once settled in New Providence, Dennis worked at Heart of Iowa Telephone and then with Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He ended his working career at the Iowa Department of Human Services at the State Training School for Boys in Eldora as a Cottage Parent helping troubled young men in the state. Dennis was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America as Scoutmaster for Troop 334 and with the Mid-Iowa Council. He spent years grooming many Eagle Scouts.

Dennis not only loved his cabin, he enjoyed flying planes enough that he got a commercial crop-duster license. He worked with Ken Cook on the farm. He also enjoyed biking, helping Tyler Duit with the Spoken Wheel Cyclery and supporting RAGBRAI riders. He enjoyed rendezvousing with his mountain man family, and at home he loved campfires and staying handy with a firearm.

Dennis is proceeded in death by his parents LaVerne Edgeton and step mother Irene Edgeton, Doris Parson-Perryman and step father Jack Perryman, and step sister Madeline Mattney. Survivors include step brothers John (Linda) Albers, Larry Albers, Denny (Toni) Albers, half-brother Glenn Edgeton. Dennis had two children, Tina (Doug) Humrichouse Sheffield, IA. and Wayne (Jean Simonson) Edgeton Rifle, CO.. Three grandchildren Katlyn Humrichouse, Laura (Ryan) Pasveer and Amelia Humrichouse.

Creps Abels Funeral Home is assisting the family.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorials can be directed to the family.
