Debra Ann Hemmen

March 13, 1960 — May 7, 2024

Dike

Debra Ann Hemmen passed away on May 7, 2024, peacefully with the love of her family surrounding her. She was born in Sumner, Iowa on March 13, 1960, to her parents, Duane and Dorothy Mueller, and joined her older sister Diane. Later they were joined by their younger sister Dawn.

Deb graduated from Dike Community High School in 1978. Soon after, she and Kevin Hemmen were married on June 30, 1978. They were joined by four great kids – Shannon, Chris, Jason, and Ashley. They lived the majority of their married life in Dike, a community they loved and supported however they could.

Deb was a partner with her mom, and then sole owner of D & D Foods in Dike for almost 10 years. She then became CEO of the Hemmen household, as the kids progressed through junior high and high school, keeping busy with all of their activities. Soon after the family purchased and operated Waterloo Warehousing, and she became Chief Listening Officer, as Kevin would discuss with her often over the dinner table whatever were the major events of the day. The support she gave was definitely instrumental in the success of the company.

Deb always looked forward to her Ladies golf night, traveling to their winter home in Redington Beach, Florida and their summer home in Clear Lake, Iowa. Winter trips to Jamaica were a must, and she was always ready to travel when they could. The entire family trips to Northern Minnesota were so important to her. Any opportunity to get together with family or friends were memories she cherished, especially a glass of wine with her circle of close friends, the Housewives of Dike.

Deb is survived by her husband of 46 years, Kevin; Children Shannon (Tom) Peverill of Dike, Chris (Jessica) Hemmen of Seoul, South Korea, Jason (Alycia) Hemmen of Dike, and Ashley (Ryan) Daniels of Dike. Also, her pride and joy, her grandchildren, Logan, Chase and Jackson Peverill; Braelynn, Brooks, and Livie Hemmen; and Jude, Bode, Oaklan, and Vada Daniels, all of Dike. Her father Duane Mueller of Dike, and sisters Diane Hansen of Des Moines and Dawn (John) Dwyer of Dike, along with many nieces and a nephew.

She was predeceased by her mother Dorothy Mueller, her in-laws Harry and Doreen Hemmen, grandparents Henry and Renate Henning, and Paul and Sophie Mueller, and nephew Jeff Hemmen.

Memorials can be given to the family, or to the DNH Dollars for Scholars designated in her name, for the benefit of the future for DNH graduates.
