Connie Mettlin

August 21, 1951 — January 30, 2026

Connie Mettlin, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, in Grundy Center, Iowa, at the age of 74. Born on August 21, 1951, in Waterloo, Iowa, Connie was a beacon of kindness and warmth, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Connie was the daughter of Shelby and Eileen Bellinger, who instilled in her the values of compassion and family that would guide her throughout her life. Her early years in Waterloo were filled with the love of her family, and she carried that love into her adulthood. In pursuit of her passion for understanding human behavior, Connie attended the University of Northern Iowa, where she graduated in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Continuing her journey in the field of social work, she furthered her education at the University of Iowa, where she earned her master's degree in 1987. Her dedication to helping others was evident in both her professional career and her personal life, where she was known for her kind spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. On April 21, 1992, Connie married her loving husband, William Mettlin. Their marriage was a partnership built on love and mutual support, and together they created a nurturing home filled with laughter and cherished memories.

Connie was a devoted wife and an adoring mother to her children: Lori, David, Aerial and Grant. She took immense pride in her family, frequently attending their events and supporting their dreams. Beyond her professional and family life, Connie had a deep appreciation for beauty and art. She was an avid collector of porcelain dolls, elephants, and various knick-knacks, each piece holding a special story and a place in her heart. Her home was a reflection of her love for collecting, where friends and family would often find joy in her treasures and the stories behind them. Connie's remarkable qualities—her kindness, her compassion, and her unwavering support for those around her—will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a family-oriented woman who embraced every moment with love and enthusiasm, creating a legacy of warmth that will endure through her family and friends.

Connie is survived by her husband, William Mettlin; her children, Lori Harvey of Boone, IA, David Hess of Traer, IA Aerial Hess of Linn Grove, IA, and Grant Mettlin of Hudson, IA; and countless loved ones who will forever cherish her memory. As we celebrate her life, we remember not only the light she brought into our lives but also the lessons she taught us about love, kindness, and the importance of family. A memorial service will be held to honor her legacy, and details will be announced in the coming days.
