C. Mervin Baker, 91, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Creekside Living - Cottages and Villas in Grundy Center. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a Memorial Service starting at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Time for fellowship where lunch will be served will follow the Memorial Service at the church. Following lunch a graveside service will take place at the East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Eldora, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.

C. Mervin Baker was born on August 19, 1934, in Rural Hardin County to Wilbur and Jeannette (Moore) Baker. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication.

Mervin was married to Helen (Risting) on October 23, 1955, at the Church of Christ in Union, IA. Their partnership was a testament to their deep commitment to family and faith. Together, they nurtured a family that includes their sons, Randy Baker of Newton, IA, Jeff (Toni) Baker of Virginia Beach, VA, and Tim (Michelle) Baker of Eden Prairie, MN, as well as their daughter, Lisa Baker of West Des Moines, IA. Mervin cherished moments with his sons and daughters-in-law, and took great pride in his grandchildren: Matthew, Zachary, Jesse, Curtis, Joshua, and his great-grandchildren: Carson, Mackenzie, Kendall, Emil, Felix, Everly, and Zoey. His sister, Linda (Ed) Farkas, also survives him.

Mervin’s life was marked by hard work and dedication. He spent 30 years as a farmer before transitioning to a laborer in a factory, where he worked for another 20 years. Education was important to him, and he graduated from Whitten High School in 1952. A man of faith and community, Mervin served as an elder and deacon in his church, dedicating much of his time to helping others. Known for his personable and caring nature, he was truly family-oriented and his kindness touched many lives. Mervin is remembered fondly by those who knew him and will be missed greatly within his community.

He is preceded in death by his brother, David, and sisters, Joylyn and Alice. Mervin leaves behind a loving family who will honor his memory and the impact he had on their lives.
