Carolyn Thesing

January 15, 1937 — March 8, 2026

Carolyn Thesing, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the age of 89 at her residence in Reinbeck, Iowa, surrounded by her family. Born on January 15, 1937, Carolyn dedicated her life to her family, her faith, and her community, leaving behind a legacy of love and service.

As a farm wife, she worked alongside her late husband, Charles Thesing, nurturing both the land and their family. Together, they raised a close-knit family, instilling values of hard work, kindness, and generosity in their children. Carolyn took great pride in the family she and Charles created, and her greatest accomplishments revolved around their collective successes and happiness.

Carolyn was a graduate of Grundy Center High School, class of 1954. Known for her generous spirit and a servant's heart, she radiated warmth and kindness in every interaction. Her strong faith and deep love for her family were evident to all who knew her. She had an infectious smile and the only thing stronger than her unwavering support was the strength of her hugs.

A passionate gardener, quilter, and baker, Carolyn found joy in simple pleasures. She cherished playing games and, most importantly, spending time with her family. Her dedication did not go unnoticed as she regularly attended her grandchildren's sporting activities, cheering them on as they pursued their passions. Carolyn was also thoughtful, always remembering birthdays and anniversaries, a testament to her caring nature.

Carolyn is survived by her children: Jeff (Kim) Thesing, Laura (Larry) Houghton, Mark (Angie) Thesing, and Julie Harberts. She was also a loving grandmother to Jeremy (Erica) Thesing, Tara Thesing, Matt (Brooke) Thesing, Justin Thesing, Dirk (Shaina) Thesing, Brynn (James) Prier, Colton (Hailey) Harberts, Rosa Houghton, Christian Houghton, Ricardo Houghton, Teralynn (Drew) Christian, Chad (Britani) Houghton, and Aaron Houghton, along with 16 great-grandchildren who will fondly remember her.

She is also survived by her brother Doug (Connie) Kruse, her sister Charlotte Bakker, and her sister-in-law Barb Kruse.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thesing; her brother, Robert Kruse; and brothers-in-law LuVerne Bakker and Bud Henze, as well as her sister-in-law, Gloria Henze.
