Carl J. Schick, Jr., 85, of Reinbeck, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck. Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, French-Hand Chapel in Reinbeck. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Reinbeck Community Church. Inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Washington Township Cemetery in Morrison, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Reinbeck Fire Department.
Carl was born on February 9, 1939, in Green County, Iowa, to his parents Carl Sr. and Erna (Fischer) Schick. He was raised in Morrison, Iowa and graduated from Reinbeck High School in the class of 1958. Carl was united in marriage to Peggy Cheeseman on June 4, 1960, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Reinbeck. Together they welcomed 4 sons into their family.
Carl worked at John Deere as a maintenance mechanic for 30 years and one day. Right after his retirement he rode his bicycle from Alaska home to Iowa in 34 days. Carl had many hobbies. He loved to fish, trap shoot, trap, woodwork, lapidary, golf, and cook. He also rode RAGBRAI for many years. However, his true joy in life came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Peggy; sons Mike (Jennifer), Scott (Kathy), Don, and Curt (Julie) Schick; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers Robert and Henry Schick; and sisters Jean Newton, Joan (Jack) Fogt, and Lavonne Hougen. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings John, Richard, Darlene, Earl, Pearl, and Lois.
