Betty Jeanne Curren, 87, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on December 27, 2023, at Creekside Living in Grundy Center. A memorial service will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Bethany Presbyterian Church.
Jeanne was born in Macedonia, Iowa, on February 14, 1936, to her parents Harold and Lucille (Miller) Osler. She was raised in Macedonia and graduated from Macedonia High School in the class of 1954 as valedictorian. She was married to Gerald Curren on May 15, 1956, and they welcomed 9 children into their family. The couple later divorced.
Jeanne was a long-time member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, where she served the church as a deacon. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, reading, and baking. She was especially known for her cookies, earning her the title of “cookie grandma.” She was also known for her hospitality and for never being too busy to sit, talk and enjoy a cup of coffee with anyone who visited. However, her true joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren. She often provided daycare for them as well as for many other children in her community.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Richard Curren of Ontario, Oregon, Rod (Rose) Curren of Panora, Iowa, Rhonda (Vince) Klosterboer of Williamsburg, Iowa, Robert Curren of Lenexa, Kansas, Becky (Randy) Watermiller of Viera, Florida, Doug (Kim) Curren of Grundy Center, Iowa, Deb Curren of Bettendorf, Iowa, Denise (Lance) Van Deest of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Jeff (Cindy) Curren of Grundy Center, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and brother Jerry (Shirley) Osler. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Jim Osler; sister Janice Bartels; and daughter-in-law Lisa Curren.
