Arlene Crosser

Arlene Marie Crosser, 95, of Eldora, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Hubbard Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Eldora United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Arlene Marie Crosser was born on March 27, 1923 on a farm south of Union, Iowa in Hardin County. Arlene was the daughter of Earl Vaughn and Josephine (Peirce) Glenney.

Arlene was united in marriage to Ernest T. Crosser, while on leave serving the Navy on November 27, 1943 in Marshalltown, Iowa. Ernest and Arlene lived north of Union, then near Hubbard, and later near Eldora where they lived until moving into Eldora in 1982.

She worked at the Union Drug Store in 1939, when she was 16 years old. She was a phone operator and worked in a turkey plant in Ellsworth in 1962. She also sorted corn at a seed corn plant, as well as helping out on the farm near Hubbard & Eldora.

Arlene was a member of the Hardin County Genealogical Society, Lamplighters Club, Urban Club and the Eldora United Methodist Church where she assisted with Meals on Wheels and belonged to the Women’s Circle.

She was a wonderful wife and mother and prepared many wonderful Sunday dinners over the years and made the best potato salad ever!

Arlene is survived by her two daughters Marie (Richard) Geiken of Wellsburg and Linda (Larry) Opperman of Unionville, MO; grandchildren Marvin (Sue) Geiken of Dike, Donna (Jody) Cretin of Iowa Falls, Marshell (Kurt) Chizek of Belle Plaine; great-grandchildren Kara Ewalt, Shelby Ewalt, Christine (Wes) Geiken, Kayla Chizek, Mandy Chizek & Justin Cretin; great-great granddaughter Clara Bailey.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Ernest; brother Wendell Glenney and two sisters Catherine Mackie and Virginia Harrington.
