William T. “Bill” Bruner, 92, of Eldora, died on September 12, 2019, at Parker Place Retirement Community in Parkersburg. Per Bill’s request, there will be no formal services held. Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, Creps-Chapel is taking care of Bill and his family.
Bill Bruner was born on March 6, 1927, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. His family moved to Council Bluffs the following year. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 1, 1944 and shipped off to basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Station. Bill was stationed aboard Navy Ship USS Hudson DD475 in the Pacific Theater of war, for his entire tour of duty; including the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He also served a two-year post-war enlistment in the US Air Force.
A varied employment career resulted in placement moves to eastern Iowa, central, eastern and southwestern Kansas, and Overland Park, Kansas. His career included over-the-road trucking, the professional service of the Boys Scouts of America, Chamber of Commerce management, the savings and loan industry and commercial banking. He was a lifetime member of Omicron Chapter, Alpha Phi Omega, University of Iowa, and a 26-year member and officer of Rotary.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Dorothy of Eldora; children Aaron (Kathy) Bruner of Great Bend, KS, Jeffrey Broer of Topeka, KS, Gregory (Susan) Broer of Austin, TX, Jennifer (Ray) Mosier of Basehor, KS, and Bennett (Roxanne) Bruner of Union, WA; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Joy Kemerling of Council Bluffs. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bob and Stan, sister Joyce, wife Ramona, and two infant children.
