Joan Sue Rodie, 57, of Holland, Iowa passed away from cancer on October 25th, 2018, at Creekside Living in Grundy Center. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2018, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM with a memorial service to follow. Visitation and service will be held at the Wellsburg Reformed Church at 617 E 4th Street in Wellsburg.
Joan Sue Rodie was born on January 13, 1961 in Grundy Center, Iowa, a daughter to Francis and Alice (Barrer) Babinat. She grew up on a farm by Voohries. Her family later moved to a home in Reinbeck where she graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1979.
She went on to get an accounting degree at Hawkeye Community College. Joan was united in marriage to Jerry Hulne of Grundy Center in 1983. They welcomed 2 children into their family. They were later divorced. In 1998 she married Vernon Rodie of Kansas. She worked many years in the accounting department at Richelieu Foods. In 1998 she became owner of a restaurant called Lone Tree Inn in Holland, Iowa. Together Joan and Vernon operated business until 2015. Following the restaurant business, she managed the Town & Country Golf Course in Grundy Center for three years. Most recently she was employed in the office at Van Wert, Inc.
Joan loved owning her own business and made many relationships and touched many lives through her customers and employees. Joan was a member of a bowling team for many, many years and loved spending time at Crystal Bowl. She also loved to play golf. Her family was her greatest joy and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband Vernon Rodie; children Aubrey Hulne of Cedar Rapids, Chelsea (Tom) Beving of Wellsburg, 3 grandchildren Leah, Natalie and Madilyn Beving; 3 step-children, Shane (Jeanie) Rodie of Kansas, Shelly (Adam) Sudmann, of Treynor, Iowa, and Trisha (Thaddeus) Nanfito of Glenwood; and 4 step-grandchildren Logan & Brooklyn Sedlak and Jade & Neyla Nanfito of Glenwood, Iowa; sister Frances Babinat of Charlotte, NC, brother Lawrence (Deb) Babinat of Reinbeck, brother Tom (Jody) Babinat of Grundy Center, sister Mary (Kenny) Kiewiet of Grundy Center, brother Paul (Barb) Babinat of Reinbeck and sister Dorothy (Stacy Nelson) Babinat of Rogers, MN, along with aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Alice Babinat.
