Donald Robert Main, 84, of Denver, IA, passed away peacefully at his home in the presence of his family on March 14, 2018. The family will hold a graveside service at Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center, IA, on March 26, 2018 at 1:00 PM with Reverend Russell Boersma officiating. Memorials may be made to Unity Point Hospice or The American Diabetes Foundation. Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home is taking care of Donald and his family. Donald Robert Main was born on September 16, 1933 to his parents Gilbert and Freda (Sarvis) Main in Mahaska County, IA. Donald attended Oskaloosa High School graduating with the class of 1952. Don went on to attend Central College majoring in business and graduating in 1956. Donald was united in marriage to Dolores Catherine Beninga on August 31, 1955 at the Lincoln Center Church in Grundy Center, IA. Don served his country honorably in the United States Army, serving as a tanker in Company B2D, and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. After his military service, he worked for John Deere, helping to market their products and worked there for 35 years. Donald had many hobbies including boating, fishing, and collecting and selling antiques. Donald enjoyed spending time with family and friends and traveling with Dolores to destinations including France, England, Scotland, and Germany. Donald was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Cedar Falls.
Donald is survived by his children Debra (Larry) VanderLinden, Darla (Craig) Schneider; grandchildren Robert (Michelle) Bertram, Joshua (Jessica) Bertram, Nathan (Jessica) Bertram, Rachel (Craig) Haugh; 10 great grandchildren; and cousin Marilyn Krusemark. Don is preceded in death by his parents, wife Dolores, and sister Maxine Main
