Zella Farmer

July 25, 1925 — February 7, 2005

Zella M. Farmer, 79, of Eldora died from natural causes on Monday, February 7, 2005 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 12 at the First United Methodist Church in Eldora with Pastor Douglas Harding officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Memorials may be directed to the Hardin County Historical Society or to the family.



Zella was born July 25, 1925 in Dows, Iowa, daughter of George and Ora (Porter) Flett. She was raised in the Radcliff and New Providence areas graduating from New Providence High School. She then attended Mercy School of Nursing in Des Moines. She spent most of her adult life in Eldora where she worked as a Surgical Technician at the Eldora Community Hospital for 26 years. She was married to Bud Reagan and later divorced. On April 7, 1979 Zella was united in marriage to Gene Farmer in Eldora.



She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eldora where she was involved with the United Methodist Women. She received much enjoyment helping with church rummage sales. She was also a member of the Hardin County Historical Society and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In her younger years Zella enjoyed bowling, bowling with the Eldora Women's Bowling League, and had bowled in several state bowling tournaments. More recently Zella mostly enjoyed spending time with friends and family.



Surviving is her husband, Gene; son, David L. Reagan of Moscow, Iowa; step-children, Larry (January) Farmer of Ashville, North Carolina, Cynthia Mayer of Marshalltown, John (Mary Bea) Farmer of Eldora, Jerry (Carol Maxfield) Farmer of Marshalltown, and Thomas (Erin) Farmer of Rocklin, California; by 15 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her parents; brother, James Noah Flett; and half-brother, Davis Birdwell.
