Wyone Ross

Wyone M. Ross, 86, of Wellsburg died on Thursday, February 05, 2009 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Monday, February 9, 2009 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Wellsburg with Pastor Gary Burkhalter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2 pm to 5 pm on Sunday at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. A memorial fund is being established.




Wyone was born October 21, 1922, in Wellsburg, Iowa, daughter of Harry and Sarah (Olthoff) Maas. She was raised in Wellsburg where she graduated with the class of 1940. On June 18, 1941 Wyone was united in marriage to Willard Ross and to this union were born three daughters, Cynthia, Patricia, and Roberta. Wyone helped with the bookkeeping of her husband’s business, Ross Construction and also enjoyed gardening. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she had been involved with their women’s groups and had served as a Sunday school teacher. Some of her greatest joy came from here grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.




She is survived by her husband, Willard; daughters, Cynthia Nielsen and her husband, Steven of Wellsburg and Patricia Black and her husband, James of Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania; sister, Harriet Burns of Steamboat Rock; and by nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Roberta Rohlfsen; sisters, Mary Schmidt, Florence Tjaden, Jenny Etjen, Mabel Weichers, Lillian Cervetti, and infant daughter, Faulka; brother, Henry Maas; and grandson, Ross Nielsen.
