Wayne Shaffer

February 18, 1919 — April 17, 2006

Wayne E. Shaffer, 87, of Reinbeck, Iowa, formerly of Hudson, Iowa, died Monday, April 17, 2006, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa. Following cremation, Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, April 20, 2006, at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck, with full Military Rites provided by the Reinbeck American Legion Action Post # 242. A memorial fund has been established.



Wayne was born February 18, 1919, in Oxford, Iowa, the son of Walter and Edith (Roberts) Shaffer. Wayne was raised and educated in Sharon Center, Iowa. He was drafted in WWII on January 1, 1943, serving his country in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on November 26, 1945. On October 8, 1950, Wayne was united in marriage to Doris Klein at the Methodist Church in Brooklyn, Iowa. Wayne farmed and then worked for Eldon Miller in Iowa City as a semi driver, and later at Farm Services in Hudson, Iowa. He was a lifetime member of the Hudson AMVETS Post # 82. Wayne loved camping and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and he loved all children. He was called grandpa by many.



He is survived by his wife Doris Shaffer of Reinbeck, Iowa; two daughters Deborah McIntyre and her husband Jerry of Reinbeck, Iowa; Deanne Lindaman and her husband Randall of Evansdale, Iowa; two sons Dwayne Shaffer and his wife Debra of Fountain Inn, South Carolina; Dennis Shaffer and his wife Nyola of Reinbeck, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister Alverta Williams of Tiffin, Iowa; three brothers Walter Shaffer and his wife Betty of Iowa City, Iowa; Robert Shaffer and his wife Ruth of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Delmar Shaffer and his wife Sally of Kalona, Iowa; one brother-in-law Russell Colony of Oxford, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law Donna McConaughy of Lisbon, Iowa; and Grace Shaffer of Grand Island, Nebraska.



He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Veva Colony; two brothers Paul Shaffer and Mervin Shaffer; and one sister-in-law Doris Shaffer.
