Theodore L. “Ted” Roling, 87 of Eldora, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the Eldora Nursing & Rehab Center while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora, with Rev. Paul Baldwin, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Eldora. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. A rosary service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.


Ted was born May 5, 1923 in Petersburg, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Frances (Welchert) Roling. He attended elementary and secondary schools in Earlville where he lived until moving to Cedar Falls as a young grocery clerk. He began working at an Eldora grocery business where he met Helen Dole. Ted and Helen were married September 19, 1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora. After a year of traveling as a salesman for the Jewel T Company, they returned to Eldora and began farming at their current residence east of Eldora in 1949. Ted was active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church as an Eucharistic minister, an usher and a charter member of the Eldora Knights of Columbus . During his retirement he loved working with his hands on woodcrafts. He made bird houses, lounge chairs and many other crafts which were treasured by his family.



Ted is survived by his eight children, Jim (Joyce) Roling of Columbia City, IN; Dennis (Patricia) Roling of Holly Lake Ranch, TX; Judy (Robert) Gunderson of Gifford, IA; Linda (Jim) Tazzioli of West Des Moines, IA; Jerry (Marti) Roling of Cedar Falls, IA; Teresa Roling (Mark Wilts) of Marshalltown, IA; Peg (Tom)Landmesser of Henderson, NE and Mark (Adela) Roling of Knightdale, NC; his sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; his brothers Alvin and Arthur Roling and his sister Arlene Johannes. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen Roling, his parents, eight sisters and two brothers.
