Rose W. Pothast, 91, of Grundy Center died on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at the Grundy Center Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Reformed Church of Stout, Iowa with Chaplain Gary Johnson of Cedar Valley Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in the Stout Cemetery. There will be no evening visitation however her family will greet friends at the church from 12:30 pm until service time. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice. Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center is in charge of the arrangements.
Rose was born March 27, 1916 in Grundy County near New Hartford, IA, daughter of Jacob and Susie (Meester) Bergman. She married George Pothast on February 8, 1957 at the Reformed Church of Stout. Prior to her marriage she taught rural schools for 15 years then worked at Rath Packing Company and Viking Pump Company in the offices. She was a member of the Stout Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school for 23 years. After her marriage they lived on a farm by Clarksville and also at Dike until they retired and made their home in Grundy Center. They spent 17 winters in Texas.
Rose is survived by only nephews and nieces and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jake, Joe, Hillard, George, Andrew, William, and Ted; and sisters, Martha Boelman, Hannah Miller, Henrietta Bergman, Ella Dreesman, and Anna Nevenhoven
