Robert Travis

Mr. Robert E. Travis, age 71, of Canton, MO, formerly of Dubuque, IA died Friday, May 09, 2008 at 4:35 a.m. in Canton, MO.



He was born December 20, 1936 in Eldora, Iowa a son of Earl and Mildred Willig Travis. He married Adeline Maronn on August 27, 1960 in Eldora, Iowa. She survives.



He graduated from Eldora High School, served in the United States Air Force and graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He was a salesman for Allied Van Lines for many years in Iowa City and Dubuque managing those offices; later worked for H & W Freight Company in Dubuque. After retiring Robert worked part time for Yellow Transportation in Peosta, Iowa.



He enjoyed singing in the church choir and the Barbershop Men's Chorus. He sang in several quartets while he was a Barbershopper.



Robert also was very active in his home church serving as treasurer for many years and also as an elder at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dubuque. He is currently a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in La Grange, MO.



His hobbies were numerous and included stamp and coin collecting. He also enjoyed working in the garden and cutting firewood. Robert was also an avid wine maker and enjoyed sharing the wine he made with family and friends.



Survivors include his wife Adeline of Canton; one son Jim Travis of Newton, IA; one daughter Kerri Blessing and her husband Jim of Canton; grandchildren John, Ray, Kenny, Sean, Mike, Levi and Jordan Travis of Newton and Mallory Blessing of Canton; one brother Richard Travis of Eldora; four sisters Shirley Valde and her husband Richard of Rochester, MN, Darla Scholey of Davenport, IA, Judy Novotny and her husband Joe of Central City, IA and Marnee Mackey and her husband Jerry of California and several nieces and nephews; two step brothers Leland Mosch and his wife Diane of Hubbard, IA, Mike Mosch and his wife Kelly of New Providence, IA; one step sister Linda Frangenburg of Huxley, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step mother Jo Anne Travis, two sisters Connie Cross and Lynda Langfitt, one brother Ronald Travis.



Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in La Grange with Pastor Paul Lohse officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. with family meeting friends after 6 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton. Funeral services will also be held Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett and Pastor Kristian Kincaid officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of services Tuesday in the Church. Burial will be held in Eldora Cemetery in Eldora, IA.



The family suggests memorials be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church of La Grange, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dubuque, IA or to the charity of the donor's choice.
